First
I must Thank the Committee of the DCNSW for inviting
me to judge your October Championship show. I had
a most enjoyable day and congratulate all exhibitors
for the sporting way they accepted my decisions.
The atmosphere at the show was wonderful. I must
give a special Thank You to my steward and long
time friend, Ian Miller. He went about his job quietly,
efficiently and in a friendly manner.
Before
I give my critique I must apologize. I have had
to rely on my memory because my tape recorder played
up.
VETERAN
DOG.
1ST: CH. YARROWFELL ULTRA DOG CD ET.
A lovely dog in good condition, spotting nicely
distributed and of good size, coat nice and white.
Good head and ears but expression a little sad.
Body of good length with a nice sloping wither giving
a nice clean curve from the neck to a good level
back and tail set. Chest ribbed well back with good
angulation front and rear. Dog moved freely around
the ring holding top line, good tail carriage. OPPOSITE
SEX VETERAN IN SHOW.
VETERAN BITCH
1ST: CH GENTRY JEWEL OF THE NILE ET.
Lovely feminine bitch, correct head with nice eyes
and ears correctly set. Dense black spotting on
a lovely white coat with a good wither. Top line
beginning to go a little. Nice chest, ribs well
sprung, good angulation front and rear, moved well
around the ring with a good extension. Close decision
for Best Veteran. BEST
VETERAN IN SHOW.
2ND CH GENTRY QUESTIONABLE LADY ET.
Very similar to the first bitch, not quite as good
in the head and eye colour, but has nice feminine
expression. Dense black spotting and a good top
line. Good spring of rib, and ribbed well back.
Free movement, top line firm and tail carriage good.
3RD: CH. RUNDOT LUSITE CHARM CD ET
This bitch is a bit square for me, and rather soft
in top line. Chest of good depth, angulation quite
good. Coat showing her age with some ticking, feet
soft, not the quality of the first two placing's
but she is almost 10 years old.
BABY
PUPPY DOG.
1ST: GEMCOURT IFLOOKZOODKYLL.
What a beautiful puppy! Good doggy head and strong
muzzle, eyes dark and nice ear set. Body nicely
proportioned, well ribbed up and depth to elbow.
Well angulated, front and rear, good croup and tail
set. Lovely white coat with dense black spotting.
Even at his tender age, this puppy promises a great
future. BEST
BABY IN SHOW.
2ND: PACEWAY POIROT
Promising baby outclassed by the winner, but still
a nice baby. Top line okay, nicely boned, angulation
fine. Eyes a little light in colour, yet to come
up on feet.
3RD: KIRINDAL MY APOLLO
Not up to the standard of the first two puppies.
Head okay, ears dark in colour. Body okay but quite
heavily spotted.
MINOR

1ST: DALLYDOM CENTAURI

and good eye colour. Quite a good wither and top
line. Chest fine with ribs well sprung and ribbed
well back. Angulation adequate, spotting good, a
little loose in movement. BEST

back, tail set a little high. Lovely coat and spotting,
good chest, well ribbed back. Smart dog on the move,
firm top line

okay. Adequate angulation. Tail set a little too
high. Moved okay.

1ST DUMBLEDEER SUN DANCER
Dog of nice proportions, nice head with good eye
colour. Good slope to wither and nice arch to neck.
Nice top line, gently arched loin, good tail set.
Nice black spots of good size. Moves well, with
good extension front and rear. Top line firm, would
like to see a little more turn to stifle. BEST
JUNIOR IN SHOW
2ND: GENTRY ZANZIBAR MOON
Lovely dog, immature but showing a lot of promise,
nice head, ears well set, good chest and well ribbed
up. Good top line and tail set, with good angulation.
Moved well holding top line
3RD: BLAIRWICK RED DRAGON
Head quite nice with good eye colour, needs to build
up body. Tail set could be better, movement okay
from the side but too wide in hindquarters when
going away, giving a somewhat stiff action from
side to side.
INTERMEDIATE
DOG
1ST: CH. VICKMA CLANCY
Lovely proportioned dog with good angulation and
slope of croup with excellent tail carriage. Good
head and ear set with dark eye. Lovely top line,
very sound movement with good extension front and
rear, with firm top line. Needs a handler able to
get the best movement out of him on the move. This
dog has a lovely distribution of good size spots
which need to clear up a little. Very promising
young dog who with a little more maturity will go
far. BEST OPPOSITE

What a beauty! Hard to take ones eyes off her. Such
a lovely shape and balance, together with her lovely

seen in years (a rarity these days). Lovely neck

beautiful tail set. Proportion of length to height
spot on. Correct fore chest, nicely sprung ribs,
lovely angulation front and rear with lovely width

OPEN BITCH
1ST GR. CH. GEMCOURT LIBERTY BELLE
Beautiful quality liver bitch of good size and shape.
Perfectly proportioned, correct angulation throughout,
with strong loin, good slope to croup and tail set
correct. Nice lay of shoulder with good length of
upper arm. Lovely stifle, hocks well let down with
good tight feet. Right amount of fore-chest, well
sprung ribs, well ribbed back (no chance of diaphragm
problems with this dog - should run forever). Movement
to die for, effortless, with good extension front
and rear, back firm and tail carriage spot on. Should
also mention that this lady has nice head expression
with good dark eye. Handler sometimes spreads her
too far when stacked spoiling top line. BEST

2ND HILLOFSILVER KRYSTAL
Another lovely liver bitch, not as mature as first
place, and obviously not used to being handled in
the ring, but a very happy girl who moved nicely.
Similar in type to winner and well spotted.
3RD CH. YARROWFELL SUPERMODEL E.T
10 year old of good type, proportions good and tail
set fine. A little over weight. Coat and spotting
showing her age, but enjoying her day out.
JUST A FEW GENERAL COMMENTS
It is obvious from the results that
generally I liked the bitches more than the dogs.
The decision for Best in Show was a hard one to
make, both bitches were of such high quality and
moved in exactly the same manner. I had to make
my final decision on size. I was concerned generally
about tail carriage in many exhibits. Remember the
Dalmatian should have a saber tail: IE it should
leave the croup level, or slightly below the horizontal,
then curve gently upwards. A happy, excited dog
may carry their tail high but one should look to
see if the tail in inserted properly. Too many handlers
spoil the look of a good specimen by holding the
tail up American style.
